Frequently Asked Questions:
What is a giclée print?
“A giclée print is a high quality archival inkjet print. Giclée printers use a higher quality of fade-resistant, archival, pigment-based inks. When applied to high quality archival substrates like Hahnemühle cotton-based, acid free Rag papers this results in an unbeatable archival lifespan of up to 200 years”. The Print Space
How do you make your giclée prints?
The process starts with my original drawings. I scan the original drawing using my home scanner at high resolution. I adjust the contrast slightly using editing software and then upload the file to my professional printers website. I make sure that the correct paper is selected and that the dimensions and border (if needed) are correct. I order a test print. Once the test print arrives and I’m happy with it I will order a number of prints. All prints are signed, titled and dated on the back. The majority of my prints are in a ‘limited edition’, a few are in an ‘open edition’ - I will always clearly state on my website listing whether prints are ‘limited edition’ or ‘open edition’.
What does ‘limited edition print’ mean?
A limited edition print is a print that is one of a set number of prints. For example giclée prints from my ‘woodland studies' series are limited to 50 prints - only 50 prints plus a test print or ‘artists proof’ will ever be printed. Limited edition prints are numbered, for example 1/50, 2/50 etc.
What does ‘open edition print’ mean?
An open edition print means there is no limit to the number of prints made, open edition prints are not numbered.
Do you ship internationally?
I offer worldwide shipping in my online shop for a cost of £9 - this is a flat rate. I have sent my work to Australia, Canada, USA and multiple European countries so far.
If I order from you and I live outside of the U.K, will I have to pay custom charges or import taxes?
Custom charges and import taxes vary from country to country and I’m therefore unable to specify if you will be charged. I cannot be held responsible for customs charges or import taxes. Unfortunately since the U.K left the EU there may be additional taxes to be paid on receipt of your order if you live in Europe. The majority of my orders are sent in flat envelopes rather than parcels so they have been known to get through without incurring charges/taxes - however I’m not able to guarantee this.
What pens do you use to make your detailed drawings?
I use unipin fine liner pens in 0.05 and 0.03 nib sizes.
